At Yoga Movement, we're big believers that movement is about more than just getting from one pose to the next.

The more we understand how the body moves, the more confidence we can bring to our teaching, coaching, and personal practice. That's why we're excited to introduce Functional Anatomy for Movement Teachers — a Continuing Education Training designed to help movement professionals build a deeper understanding of the body and how it works.

Whether you're a yoga teacher, Pilates instructor, fitness coach, personal trainer, or simply someone who wants to better understand movement, this training will give you practical tools that go far beyond memorising muscles and bones.

Anatomy, Made Practical

Let's face it — anatomy can sometimes feel intimidating. Long lists of muscle names and complex diagrams don't always translate into better teaching or movement. This training takes a different approach. Instead of focusing on anatomy as a subject to memorise, we'll explore anatomy as a tool to better understand movement. You'll learn how joints function, how muscles work together, why people move differently, and how to apply this knowledge in a real-world setting. The goal isn't to turn you into an anatomy expert overnight. It's to help you make better decisions, ask better questions, and see movement with greater clarity.

This six-module Continuing Education Training isn't about memorising muscles or revisiting a dusty anatomy textbook. It's about understanding the body in a practical, accessible way that directly improves how you teach, coach, cue, sequence, and move.

A Six-Module Journey Into Movement

The programme is structured across six individual modules, each building on the last to create a comprehensive understanding of how the body moves.

Module 1: Foundations of Functional Anatomy

Build a practical understanding of anatomy and movement. Learn to observe movement, identify joint actions and muscle function, and apply anatomy through effective cueing and sequencing. Read more here.

Module 2: The Core – Stability, Breath & Movement

Explore the core as a system of stability, breathing, and movement control. Learn how the diaphragm, abdominals, and pelvic floor work together to support efficient movement. Read more here.

Module 3: Upper Limb – Hands, Wrists, Elbows & Shoulders

Explore the core as a system of stability, breathing, and movement control. Learn how the diaphragm, abdominals, and pelvic floor work together to support efficient movement. Read more here.

Module 4: Lower Limb – Feet, Ankles, Knees & Hips

Examine how the lower body creates stability, mobility, and power. Explore movement mechanics through standing postures, balances, squats, and lunges. Read more here.

Module 5: Pelvic Girdle – Pelvis, Pelvic Floor & Pressure Systems

Expert-Led Learning

The series is led by Amy Conheeney, a physiotherapist, senior yoga teacher, and educator with more than 15 years of experience across the health, movement, and wellness industry. Over the last decade, Amy has played a key role in shaping Yoga Movement's teacher training programmes, mentoring hundreds of teachers through anatomy, movement quality, intelligent sequencing, and practical application.

What makes Amy's teaching unique is her ability to make anatomy approachable. Rather than getting lost in technical terminology, she helps movement professionals understand anatomy through the lens of real-life movement — translating complex concepts into practical tools that can immediately improve teaching, coaching, and personal practice.

Drawing from both physiotherapy and yoga, Amy's approach focuses on understanding the body as a whole system, helping teachers develop a sharper eye for movement patterns, compensations, and opportunities for growth. Whether you're a new teacher looking to strengthen your foundations or an experienced coach wanting to refine your understanding, you'll leave with knowledge that extends far beyond the classroom.

At Yoga Movement Academy, we're passionate about helping movement professionals continue to evolve.Because the best teachers aren't the ones with the most cues or the fanciest transitions. They're the ones who understand what's happening underneath the movement. Functional Anatomy for Movement Teachers is an opportunity to deepen that understanding, sharpen your eye, and build confidence in the way you teach, coach, and move.
